Things I learn't from todays critique:
  • The scope of a brief is always irrelevant. Disregard with impunity
  • When using a more obscure site, be sure to present the pre-existing environment in detail + relate to the post-development site.
  • Criticisms about graphic design are weird. Nobody gets called out on horrible typography or layouts that obstruct the readability of drawings. However using tracing paper as a backboard is apparently bad (more contrast/makes the presentation fast to pinup and easy to move). I didnt really see any aesthetical or functional arguments against it, but apparently was just not right. It seems that average layouts and experimental layouts are all fine, but anything that is slightly different without pushing the boundaries attracts attention. (end-mini-rant)
  • Always know your materials palette. Even if you dont really know specific arguments for using it, just make sure you can drop names.
